A Gift of Writing

Received some sad news this past week: the anthology "A Gift of Writing" was supposed to appear in has become a victim of the economy and has been canceled along with quite a number of other anthologies slated for 2012 by the same publisher.

"God of Light" is still slated for the December issue of Something Wicked.

It's been a tough year all around. Here's hoping 2012 is a lot better for everyone.

And Back

The laptop problem has been solved with a new one. I share with my husband, but he's not home or on it a lot, so it's pretty much mine. ;)

Still working on Charms.

Still waiting to hear on the anthology publication date for "Gift of Writing". Last bit of info puts it in 2012, but no specific date has been given.

Everything else is running pretty much on track. Since I now have a way to be online pretty consistently, I'll be submitting my work again and should be able to update Alden.nu more consistently again. Already have a Lesson or two planned and am thinking about Metas.

Hopefully there won't be any more interruptions to being online in the near future.

It's Quiet

It's a bit quiet around here right now as there are some events at home requiring my attention. And I have limited laptop time at the moment, though I hope that will be changing soon. Just some general updates:

» "God of Light" still due to come out in the December Something Wicked

» Still no news on when the antho with "Gift of Writing" is due to be released

» Blood Charms is in, hopefully, it's last revision. If all goes well, I hope to have it out to beta readers early 2012 (which is too close for comfort! Really, what happened to this year?) and be submitting it before summer.

» I've begun the first round revision on Quest For Ehlarayn, the book that comes after Assassin's Choice. No, A.C. hasn't been picked up yet, but Quest gives me an alternate project that I can work on when I don't have a laptop.

» All new material is on hold until the laptop thing has been resolved. If it doesn't get resolved, I still have my old 98SE--no internet access...and it's very weird to work on now.

And that's pretty much it. Not ignoring Alden.nu, just don't have as much time and access as I had a bit back. Hopefully, it will all sort itself out soon and favorably.

Acceptance!

"God of Light" has been accepted by Something Wicked, and I just sent the contract back last night (in the wee hours of the morning, actually). I'll be sure to note when it will be available.

Still waiting to hear when Ghostology, the antho that will have "The Gift of Writing" in it, will be available. The last update noted that it's on the publisher's list (as of 6/5/2011), but there's no timeline for its release. I'm anxious for it since it took 9 years to sell that story.

Finally, Meta, Lessons, and journeys updates, which I've managed to do at least monthly until now, are on a short hiatus until I finish an important project for the husband.

Web Updates & Into Stone

Journeys, which used to be on Vox then was forced to Typepad when Vox closed, has now come home to Alden. Really, it should have been here all along. My experience with outside platforms hasn't been all that encouraging in the past, with LiveJournal being an exception. Now it's home and the archives are gradually being moved over. Soon enough I'll be posting some new Journeys entries.

A new Meta has been posted: Value Yourself.

Earlier this month, a new Lesson went up: Novel Style Sheet/Outline.

And a new story has been offered in Uncut: Intended.

Also recently updated: the projects list and bibliography.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, "Into Stone" is in the Spring 2011 issue of Golden Visions, available now!

Gift of Writing

Proof persistence is key: I wrote "A Gift of Writing" and started submitting it about 9 years ago. It has finally found a home in Library of the Living Dead's upcoming Ghostology anthology. See the entire TOC here!

Presence

"Presence", a short story in which a vampire tests God, is now available at AnthologyBuilder. You can also find "In the Blood" and "Intended" available.

I've also had another acceptance, but I'm waiting on the contract before I announce it. ;)

PDFs Available

As of today, Uncut is back online with a couple new features: longer stories will only have an excerpt up and be available for download as PDF files, and all offerings will have a donation button up for anyone who wishes to donate a little for the opportunity to read. Amount will be the reader's choice and the donation goes through Paypal. All work remains copyrighted and is not to be posted elsewhere without my express permission.

To kick off the new Uncut, in addition to the original flash piece, "No Connection", the short story, "In The Blood", is now available.

Slow But Steady

The holidays interrupted getting Alden.nu back up in a form where it could be updated, but we're back on track. All the old entries for Chrestomathy, Metawriting, and Lessons are back online and these three sections are ready for new updates. I haven't decided if I'll be bringing Uncut back or if I'll be removing it. The plan at this point is to move Journeys, my old Vox blog, to Alden.nu; check the portal and remove any dead links and correct anything moved; and to finally start putting up some new updates and articles, starting with a new Lesson this week.

Hopefully Alden will remain fairly stable now and this won't be necessary again. Our new host is much more reliable than the previous. It's my hope we'll stay here for a very long time. ;)

Getting Back Online

I'm working on getting Alden back online after yet another host disappeared on me. The site began to have issues at the previous server. When I attempted to contact the host, there was no response. I finally started looking for another host, but was having trouble finding anything affordable for me at the moment (unemployment in the family takes it toll) until I received the offer of help from another friend. Since he also hosts Romance Divas, I am resting easy in his care of the site.

There is quite a bit of news I want to share here, but my first priority is to get the site back online, and that has to be done in between writing and other tasks. So most of the news and updates will need to wait a little longer. When all is done, there will be some minor changes on the portal pages (most should be back end and unnoticeable to users), journeys will more than likely be moved to the site, and the urls of most of the other articles, samples, and stories will be changed.

Let's hope another move doesn't happen for a very long time.
